Speedwell – a challenging weed

Speedwell.

This is the most difficult lawn weed to control in the UK.  The RHS states that it is resistant to most of the lawn weedkillers available to amateurs.  Our professional products will do a better job but control is still only partially effective.

There are two varieties Slender speedwell (veronica filliformis) and germander speedwell (veronica chamaedrys).  Germander speedwell is the more tricky of the two.

Whilst controlling with herbicides is challenging having a healthy lawn with a thick sward of grass is the best way to keep this weed at bay.  Therefore consistent fertil;iser applications to provide nutrition and regular cutting to encourage a thick lawn will provide the best possible level of cultural control.  When cutting pick up the clippings to avoid spread and rake up well after scarifying..
